Biologist Natalia Paklina photographed this long-tailed macaque in the Sacred Monkey Forest on the Indonesian island of Bali
Biologist, Mrs Natalia Paklina said: “At first I thought he was scratching but then it looked like he was tickling himself and laughing. For people on Bali these monkeys are sacred and associated with the monkey-God, Hanuman.
‘It means that the monkeys get given what they want by the locals so they have a lot to be happy and laugh about.”
There’s no denying this is a great photo. My scientific peers would question whether this little fella is actually giggling, but let’s not spoil the moment. Enjoy the picture, it certainly put a smile on my face.
